On April 2, NACCHO and 51 volunteers from local health departments (LHDs) around the country hosted a point-of-dispensing (POD) exercise at the 2014 Preparedness Summit. One hundred and sixty nine individuals from around the country participated in the POD exercise. While being “dispensed” their boxed lunches, participants went through a POD and experienced a series of three educational stations that showcased innovative resources in action and demonstrated how LHDs can adopt new practices into their medical countermeasure planning and implementation efforts. These educational stations focused on social media, whole community inclusion, and partnerships. NACCHO’s SNS Project has also been providing substantive feedback on a number of CDC initiatives including the Operational Readiness Review Tool. NACCHO’s SNS Project is also planning for a webinar on June 5 from 2:30-4:00PM ET titled “Improved Planning for Vulnerable Populations through Use of Closed PODs.” More information will be provided at a further date.
