Risk Communication and Information Sharing Workgroup September Report

The Risk Communication and Information Sharing Workgroup held its September call on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at 2 PM Eastern Time. Ten workgroup members participated in the call. The group discussed its 2014-2015 workplan and finalized the deliverables proposed during the August call. The workgroup discussed three planned abstracts for the 2015 Preparedness Summit and established subgroups to manage those abstracts and submit them by the deadline. The workgroup also shared experiences of media requests regarding Ebola that the group members are fielding at their local health departments.

Representatives of Public Health – Seattle & King County shared a new text messaging toolkit with the group, developed in partnership with the Northwest Center for Public Health Practice at the University of Washington. The toolkit contains many useful resources for creating texting programs, including information on how to write texts for various audiences, understanding the motivations of different types of audiences, crafting messages, legal information, and recruiting subscribers.

The next workgroup call will take place on Tuesday, October 7 at 1 PM Eastern Time. Please note the new day and time.
