Preparedness Policy Advisory Group November Report

The Preparedness Policy Advisory Group (PPAG) held its monthly conference call on Nov. 13. The group hosted John Hick and Linda Scott from the Institute of Medicine’s Crisis Standards of Care Committee, who discussed the recent release of the second of two reports about the Crisis Standards of Care. The report includes a toolkit for identifying indicators and triggers and key response strategies and actions that agencies or facilities can use to respond to an incident. The group also had a discussion on the recent Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Re-authorization Act (PAHPRA) statute regarding the temporary reassignment of staff. The new PAHPRA provision offers important staffing flexibility for state, local, and tribal public health departments during a federally declared public health emergency. Finally, the group held a short discussion regarding funding cuts and how cuts in preparedness funding are affecting preparedness programs at the local level.
