The Preparedness Policy Advisory Group held its monthly call on March 12. The workgroup discussed the impact of the Hospital Preparedness Program budget cuts and the affect it may have on the local health departments (LHDs). During the call, the group heard an informational update on NACCHO’s 2013 National Profile Study of Local Health Departments. This update provided an overview of LHDs’ emergency preparedness demographics, participation in select emergency preparedness activities, and response to all-hazard events and drills. Finally the group held a short discussion on the President’s FY 2015 proposed budget, as well as the CMS proposed rule on emergency preparedness requirements for Medicare and Medicaid participating providers and suppliers. The next call will be on April 9.
