Preparedness Policy Advisory Group August Report

The Preparedness Policy Advisory Group (PPAG) held its monthly call on August 13. The workgroup welcomed new NACCHO staff member Katie Schemm, Senior Program Analyst. During the August call, Chris Aldridge, NACCHO’s Senior Director for Infectious Disease Prevention and Control, provided a briefing on recent events and CDC guidance related to the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. The group also received an informational update on the Vulnerable & At-Risk Population Resource Guide, which was developed by the North Carolina Preparedness and Emergency Response Research Center, as a resource for state and local public health agencies, emergency management, hospitals, and other agencies seeking to improve their preparedness planning for vulnerable and at risk populations. Lastly, the group discussed and provided comments on a Community Resilience policy statement developed by a NACCHO Policy Scholar and the Surge Management Workgroup. The next call will be on September 10.

Her work focuses on supporting local health departments strengthen public health and healthcare preparedness capacity and capabilities through governance, coordination and liaison with federal preparedness organizations, policy, and program management.
