NACCHO President-Elect Travels to Senegal to Fight Ebola Virus

NACCHO President-elect Dr. Swannie Jett, Executive Director of the Seminole County (FL) Health Department, left for Senegal on Oct. 2 as part of the Kentucky Air National Guard to fight the Ebola virus. Approximately 60 airmen from Louisville’s 123rd Contingency Response Group traveled to Senegal to set up a cargo hub for organizing and distributing shipments of medical supplies and to direct medical personnel to the hardest hit areas.

As a local health official, Dr. Jett has led local domestic preparedness efforts in Seminole County and is also contributing to the fight abroad through his role with the Air National Guard. “This is a humanitarian type mission and this is what we live to do so I’m very excited to go and being able help out another country and continent as well,” said Dr. Jett.
