The Medical Countermeasures (MCM) Workgroup held their monthly meeting on Nov. 11. Barbara Cooper (CDC/DSNS) joined the call to discuss new Advanced Training Topics regarding MCM dispensing and distribution for DSNS to develop. New training topics included crowd psychology; line/queue management; points-of-dispensing (POD) critical information requirements; maximize facility design for POD flow; security strategies for PODs; pediatric dispensing issues; maintaining quality control in mass dispensing; long-term dispensing; alternate dispensing modalities; functional needs and PODs; successful and effective strategies for community engagement; and legal considerations for Closed PODs. Adam Lofton from CDC also joined the call to provide an update on the MCM Plus Readiness Review. A communications strategy sub-workgroup will begin meeting in the coming weeks to discuss the development of the companion guidance document and the communications strategy for the tool. NACCHO has reached out to our Risk Communication and Information Sharing Workgroup to participate in this sub-workgroup. The MCM Workgroup discussed the 2014 Preparedness Summit POD Demonstration. An important process of developing this demonstration is to identify those innovative practices that can be demonstrated at each stage, such as an innovative screening practice, etc. The POD Demonstration Planning Committee will be meeting for the first time on Dec. 3.
