July Preparedness Policy Advisory Group Report

The Preparedness Policy Advisory Group (PPAG) held their monthly conference call meeting on July 8, 2015. The PPAG welcomed a new chair – Paulette Valentine from the Southwest Utah Public Health District – and four new Preparedness Committee members to the workgroup. On behalf of NACCHO and the PPAG membership, we would also like to extend a huge thank you to the outgoing PPAG chair, Mac McClendon from Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services (Texas), for his leadership and support on the PPAG over the last two years.

During the meeting, PPAG members reviewed a draft policy statement on risk communications capacity and discussed current practices, successes, and challenges in state-local concurrence processes. Members also received updates from NACCHO on the FY16 congressional appropriations process; more information about how public health and preparedness funding has fared thus far is available here. The next PPAG meeting will be held on August 12 at 3:00 ET.
