The Pacific NorthWest Border Health Alliance Cross Border Public Health Preparedness Workshop is designed to address emerging public health threats, bio-preparedness, and health security. The theme for the 2014 workshop was Exploring Mutual Assistance: A Cross Border Perspective and it was held in Portland, OR. NACCHO staff attended a portion of this conference and were invited to present on Project Public Health Ready (PPHR). Several states represented are considering increased participation in PPHR, a criteria-based public health preparedness program that assesses local health department (LHD) capacity and capability to plan for, respond to, and recover from public health emergencies. Resham Patel from NACCHO presented a poster on PPHR that outlined key features of the program, recent survey results, and maps to visualize the diversity in jurisdiction size and governance of LHDs that have achieved PPHR recognition.
